By the end of the course, students should 1) understand the role of learners in second language learning. 2) understand their own characteristics as a learner of English and set goals for their future study of English. 3) understand how sociolinguistic skills are taught and learned. 4) be able to critically analyze English textbooks.

This course introduces students to two important topics in second language learning, the role of learners, and the acquisition of communication skills beyond grammar and vocabulary. The course is both theoretical and practical.
